Product Description Is Your Job Making You "Stupid"?
Adam Smith, author of The Wealth of Nations, once wrote that a person who spends his life performing the same repetitive tasks "generally becomes as stupid and ignorant as it is possible for a human creature to become." Wow! Now that's not a pretty picture. Unfortunately, much of our work today consists of those boring, repetitive tasks.
But maybe you're one of the many who have gotten caught up in thinking work is just something you do to support your weekends. Work is that necessary evil, a means to an end, or just a curse from God. You probably take your role of providing for yourself and those depending on you seriously. But you don't expect to enjoy your work---you just do what has to be done.
Only now you're seeing that even loyalty and dependability bring no guarantees. Lately you've seen coworkers who have been let go after years of faithful service. Perhaps your entire industryhas been shaken by outsourcing or changing technology. Maybe you're tired of the long commute and being tied to your desk when you know you could make your own hours and still be productive. You may have ideas stirring that you think could create new income and time freedom.
But here comes another Monday. Maybe feeling trapped is just the reality of the way things are. Doesn't everyone dread Mondays? Doesn't every responsible person just bury their dreams and passions in exchange for getting a paycheck?
Absolutely not! All of us, no matter how old we are or what kind of work we're doing, can learn to bring the same excitement to our jobs that we bring to whatever we love to do on our days off. I believe that each one of us can pursue work that is a reflection of our best selves---a true fulfillment of our callings.
No More Mondays will show you that meaningful work really is within your grasp. And once you've opened the door and seen all the exciting career opportunities that await you---whether you decide to revolutionize your current job or launch a new career altogether---you'll find you can't go back to the old way of working."
From No More Mondays
For everyone who dreads going to work on Monday mornings, inspiring advice on how to find fulfilling work in an uncertain age.
Do you hate Mondays?
If so, what's keeping you at your current job?
If you said a steady paycheck and the promise of a secure retirement, then you're in for a big disappointment. In today's volatile economy, there is nothing safe about punching the clock for a job you hate.
As beloved talk-show host and bestselling author Dan Miller reveals, the only way to find true security is by following your calling and then finding or creating work that matches that calling and passion.
No More Mondays's practical, inspirational advice speaks to people looking for guidance on how to launch a new career or business, those who want to stay in their current jobs and give the old 9-to-5 model a twenty-first-century makeover, and managers desperate to understand the way people want to work today. | Great read - If you are contemplating self-employment this is a must read. It is not only a motivational book that will encourage and challenge you to take the plunge of starting your own business, but it also a practical book that gives you resources for finding your "fit" or "calling" in life. This is a book written by someone who has made the transition from a regular 9 to 5 job to a successful entrepreneur. He doesn't just write about it, he is living it and has guided thousands of others to do the same. Make sure you have your high-lighter pen in hand when you sit down to read. The book was timely and helpful. | | | | helpful advice to escape from the rat race Oct 7, 2009 |
First heard about Dan Miller via the Dave Ramsey Show. As you know, Dave is somebody who helps people to get out of debt. When I first heard that, I saw no way to do it without "delivering pizza" (which is always what Dave says.
Dan was the guy who actually gave me hope and showed me that I could make money on my terms, doing something that I wanted to do.
This is a great book and anybody who has enjoyed Dan's information via Dave Ramsey or his online blog posts will love it. It asks some really good questions, which will get you thinking and help you to develop your plan for leaving your job and starting a new life, doing business and making money on your terms.
If you're planning on leaving your job or just thinking about it, you'll really benefit by reading this book. | | | | very motivating Sep 12, 2009 |
Heard about Dan Miller on the Dave Ramsey show. Have been thinking about changing careers for a long time, so I decided to get this book. Was glad I did.
This is a great book for anybody even thinking about a career change as it gives you many options on how to do it.
I think the best thing about Dan's plan is that he looks at your talents first and builds the job around them. Everything is build around your strengths. Most people approach things in just the opposite way, with people trying to strengthen their weaknesses.
Dan is also very conservative in his help for you to make a life change. I liked that, since fear is the big reason most people, including me, don't do anything. By being conservative and showing you a slow and steady way to make change in your career, you're more likely to come up with something that sticks.
This book really helped me to see things in a different way. If you're looking for a change of career, I highly recommend you read it. | | | | Ditching Corporate America Jul 13, 2009 |
Dan Miller has a novel idea---Get out of the rat race before the rats catch up to you. For anyone spending their time laboring in the dismal environment of Corporate America, this is terrific advice.
The key to successfully crossing over from the rat race to being your own head-cheese is taking stock of your talents & your comfort level with your present situation versus the possible risk/reward of making a major life change.
One word of caution; if you decide to bail from the security of a regular paycheck to something not quite as stable, you'd better have a little nest egg saved up to help tide you over for a while; just in case your talents aren't quite what you thought they were. That's the harsh reality of business. However, for many, that's a risk worth taking. | | | | 48 Days for job changers; No More Mondays for job replacers... Jun 22, 2009 |
| I read 48 Days to the Work You Love and took the personality/career assessment test on the 48Days dot com web site. My personality result is "Peacemaker". While my personality description (and list of suggested careers) shows little that would recommend me to a career in corporate America, I'm pleased it shows I might do very well as a self-employed an "infopreneur" or a coach or counselor. I have finished my initial ebook product, and web site, and just need to write my sales letter. Thank you Dan for another inspirational and motivational book! My goal is to start out selling downloadable information products online, to supplement my income, and eventually eclipse the income earned from my 9 to 5 job so I can become self-employed full-time. I want to liberate myself from routine work (which could easily be automated and result in finding myself unemployed or underemployed), to find greater stability, creative fulfillment and unlimited income opportunity through self-employment. I only wish Dan would publish another book on infopreneurship, with concrete, step by step advice for generating a creative income with information products, or at least a book of case studies. He mentions several clients he has worked with, throughout the No More Mondays and 48 Days books, but gives little detail. I'd love to see a collection of case studies with accompanying blueprints for how to plan, launch and grow these types of creative businesses... | | | Write your own review about No More Dreaded Mondays: Ignite Your Passion - and Other Revolutionary Ways to Discover Your True Calling at Work
